After a rough two-game stretch for Jamal Agnew, which included a couple of fumbles and mental mistakes in the return game, Agnew stepped up for Detroit early against Philadelphia.
The third-year cornerback out of San Diego State redeemed himself as he did the unthinkable and returned a 100-yard kick return for a touchdown.
Not only did Jamal Agnew step-up when the team needed him but Marvin Jones caught a touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford. The Lions went on to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-24, on Sunday.
Kerryon Johnson put the Lions ahead, 14-10, in the second quarter following a 1-yard touchdown run.
The final quarter of action was a nail bitter.
Stafford kicked off the fourth quarter with a 12-yard pass to Marvin Jones in the corner of the endzone to put Detroit up, 27-17.
The Eagles cut the Lions lead to three when Carson Wentz connected on a 2-yard pass with Nelson Agholor with 6:59 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Lions held possession for the final minutes and were in position for Matt Prater to attempt a 46-yard field goal when Eagles DB Malcolm Jenkins blocked the attempt. The loose ball was picked up by Rasul Douglas, who returned it to the Lions 22.
An illegal block by Malcolm Jenkins pushed the ball back, and the Eagles started their possession at midfield.
Philadelphia committed three offensive pass interference penalties. On fourth & 5, Darren Sproles pushed off Tavon Wilson to secure a catch along the sideline. Officials made the call, and the Eagles turned it over on downs.
Marvin Jones finished Sunday with six receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown. Detroit is the only team in NFL history with four different receivers with 100-yard games (Amendola, Hockenson, Golladay, Jones).
The Lions lost Mike Daniels (foot) in the first quarter and Darius Slay (hamstring) in the third quarter to injuries against the Eagles.
The Detroit Lions (2-0-1) remain unbeaten and host the Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) on Sunday at Ford Field. Kansas City won the previous content, 45-10, on Nov 15, 2010. However, the Lions have defeated the Chiefs the last two times at Ford Field.
