Colleyville, Texas native Chandler Freeman finds himself amongst the top available prospects in the upcoming 2019 MLB Draft which begins on Monday.
Freeman comes from a talented baseball family as his cousin, Tyler Freeman, currently plays for the Lake County Captains, which are members of the Cleveland Indians’ organization. His other cousin, Cody Freeman, is available to be drafted this year as well.
Chandler Freeman has been successful on the field both offensively and defensively. Currently ranked No. 25 nationally and No. 3 within the state of Texas, his talent has not gone unnoticed.
Freeman has a strong relationship with his sister, Lexi, who has supported his baseball career from the start. Lexi discussed her love for not only her family but for the game of baseball as well.
“My support for the boys, Tyler included, will never waiver,” Lexi Freeman said. “They both have had quite the journey to get to the point that they are at.”
Lexi is one of their biggest fans and will continue to support all three as each of them have an opportunity to play in the MLB.
Chandler Freeman has made quite the impact at the plate during his senior season at Colleyville Heritage High. While his senior campaign continues as the Panthers ride deep into the postseason, Freeman has finished strong at the plate.
Freeman is strong and athletic. Even with a strong arm at third base, Freeman has been a proven slugger. The talented infield corner prospect holds a .365 batting average and seven home runs.
Freeman has found a lot of success in high school and currently plays alongside top prospect Bobby Witt Jr. Freeman reflected on his ability to emulate that success either in the minor league system or college.
“This season of high school has been a fun one for my team and I, and I have enjoyed some pretty good success,” Chandler Freeman said. “At the next level, whether it be college or professional, I think that continuing to enjoy the day in and day out process of the game itself and finding a way to improve is how I would like to go about my business.”
Freeman could elect to play professionally following the 2019 MLB Draft. If Freeman chooses to play college baseball instead, he signed his national letter of intent to play division one baseball at Dallas Baptist University.
Chandler reflected on the success his family has had playing baseball in recent years, but also some advice his cousin Tyler shared with him about preparing for the upcoming MLB Draft.
“It has really helped because he has given me some valuable insight as to how this all goes,” Freeman said. “The best piece of advice he’s given me is to not worry about what anyone thinks, just to go out and enjoy my last season of high school baseball.”
The varsity program currently holds a 37-3 record overall. On June 1, Colleyville Heritage High School defeated Monterey, 6-3, to advance to the state semi-finals. CHHS will continue its spectacular season on Thursday, June 4, against Corsicana.
The 2019 MLB Draft kicks off on Monday, June 3 and concludes on Wednesday, June 5.
