On Thursday, October 11th the San Jose Sharks travel to New York as they take on the Rangers in an early season matchup.
Currently, the Sharks are 2-2-0 with loses coming against the Anaheim Ducks and the New York Islanders. During those losses, the Sharks were outscored 9 -2 with the Islanders walking away with a 4-0 shutout win on October 8th.
However, on the other hand, the Rangers are currently 0-3-0 this season while being outscored 14-8. The latest loss came against the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 8-5.
The matchup is interesting as both teams have a healthy lineup even though Sharks center Joe Thornton is on the disabled list due to a knee injury.
Puck is expected to drop at 7PM EST at Madison Square Garden.
San Jose Sharks:
In net for the Sharks, tonight is likely Martin Jones. Jones, who is currently 1-2-0 this season allowing roughly three goals a game but successfully saving 86% of shots taken against him.
Right-wing Kevin LaBanc has had an impressive career for the Sharks. Heading into his third year as a member of the team, LaBanc has recorded 65 points from 20 goals and 45 assists.
This season, LaBanc has accumulated four assists and one goal.
Left-wing Evander Kane has been a nice acquisition early on after being acquired from the Buffalo Sabers a year ago. During his short stint in San Jose, Kane has accumulated 18 points on 13 goals and five assists. However, during his career, Kane has accumulated 358 points thanks to 190 goals and 168 assists.
This season, Kane has accumulated four points because of four goals.
New York Rangers:
In net for the Rangers is expected to be veteran goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist has yet to record a win this season but has a whopping .933 save percentage while averaging 2.06 goals a game.
Right-wing Jesper Fast currently leads the Rangers in points and assists this season. This season, Fast has recorded three points with two assists and one goal.
However, Fast is currently entering his sixth season in the league and during those six years, Fast has recorded 101 points with 36 goals and 65 assists.
Left-wing Pavel Buchnevich currently leads the Ranger with two goals this season. Buchnevich is entering his third season as a member of the Rangers organization and during that span, Buchnevich accumulated 65 points because of 24 goals and 42 assists.
