Can the Cubs finish the season on a high note against the Cardinals?

The Chicago Cubs made franchise history on Wednesday, September 26th as the team clinched their fourth straight playoff appearance.

The Chicago Cubs had a little help from the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night.



The Brewers defeated the St Louis Cardinals which ultimately clinched a playoff spot. Hours later the Cubs went on to win 7-6 against the Pirates in 10 innings.

The Cubs will begin the final series of the regular season as they face off against division foes the St Louis Cardinals.

The Chicago Cubs have been dominant at home defending Wrigley Field as they possess a 48-29 home record.

However, the St. Louis Cardinals have had their fair share of success on the road this season. Although the Cardinals are out of the playoffs, the club can try their best to put a damper on the Cubs heading into October.

Chicago Cubs:

On the mound for the Cubs is the right-handed ace, Kyle Hendricks.

Hendricks has been impressive this season with a 13-11 record for Chicago with a 3.49 ERA. Throughout the season, Hendricks has pitched 191 total innings which paved way for him to strike out 159 batters successfully.

His strikeout total on the season currently leads the Cubs bullpen.

Offensively, the team has looked good behind Javier Baez and Ben Zobrist.

Baez has proven his power throughout the season with 34 total home runs and 11 RBIs. Both of which leads the Chicago Cubs. With both home run and RBI totals, Baez is currently maintaining a .293 batting average on the season.

Ben Zobrist, on the other hand, is currently batting .310 which leads the Cubs organization and places him within the Top 10 in the MLB.

St. Louis Cardinals:

On the mound for the St Louis Cardinals is right-handed pitcher Adam Wainwrights.

Wainwright is currently riding a 2-3 record for the Cardinals with a 4.08 ERA.


Throughout the season, Wainwright has pitched just 35.1 innings while managing to strike out 33 batters.

Offensively, the Cardinals have been lead by Matt Carpenter, Jose Martinez, and Marcell Ozuna. All three players currently lead the Cardinals in one of the three batting categories.


Carpenter leads the Cardinals with 36 home runs on the seasons. Carpenter is also batting .259 alongside a total of 80 RBIs.

Martinez leads the Cardinals with a .306 batting average on the season. Alongside his batting average, Martinez has also recorded a total of 17 HRs and 63 RBIs for the Cardinals.

Ozuna currently leads the Cardinals with 87 RBIs on the season. Alongside his RBI total, Ozuna has recorded 23 HRs and a .279 batting average for the season
