Can Wainwright find his groove against the Gaints before the postseason?

Saturday, September 22nd marks game two of the St Louis Cardinals three-game series against the San Francisco Giants.

 
The St. Louis Cardinals are currently 84-69 which places them third in the central division ranking of the national league behind the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs.
However, even though the Cardinals are in third place within the division the club is still slated for a wild card position.

 
The San Francisco Giants are currently riding a 72-81 record which places them fourth in the western division of the national league behind the Diamondbacks, Rockies, and Dodgers.

 
Within the last 10 games, the Cardinals are 5-5 while the Giants are 4-6.
First pitch is currently slated for 1:05 PM on FOX.

St. Louis Cardinals:

Taking the mound for the Cardinals is right-handed pitcher Adam Wainwright.
Wainwright holds a 2-3 record for the Cardinals with a 3.72 ERA. Wainwright has successfully struck out 27 batters through 29 innings.

 
Wainwright began the season on the disabled list due to a left hamstring strain but was activated on April 5th. However, on April 22nd the Cardinals placed Wainwright on the disabled list because of inflammation in his throwing elbow.

 
Although Wainwright has started five games this season, none of those starts were between the months of June and August.

 
His latest start coming against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, September 16th in which Wainwright pitched six innings and nine strikeouts.

 
Offensively, first baseman Jose Martinez has looked impressive at the plate. Martinez currently leads the Cardinals with a .305 batting average but has also blasted 30 homers along with 80 RBIs this season. Continuing the offensive dominance alongside Martinez is first baseman Matt Carpenter. Carpenter leads the Cardinals with 35 home runs and 77 RBIs but has also maintained a .263 batting average.

San Francisco Giants:

On the rubber for the Giants is right-handed pitcher Dereck Rodriguez.

 
Since being called up from the minors, Rodriguez has started 10 games for the Giants. During those 10 games, Rodriguez holds a 6-4 record with a 2.30 ERA. Through 109.1 innings pitched, Rodriguez successfully struck out a total of 86 batters.

 
Leading the Giants offensively is third baseman Evan Longoria and shortstop Brandon Crawford.

 
Longoria is currently riding a .246 batting average while leading the Giants with 16 home runs this season. Crawford, on the other hand, leads the Giants with a .259 batting average while also recording 13 home runs and 52 RBIs.
