Game 4 Final: Lightning 3 – Devils 1
The Tampa Bay Lightning were upset after the loss during Game 3 and came into Game 4 both physical and aggressive from the start. The Lightning were able to move within one game of eliminating the Devils’ who are participating in their first postseason in 6 years. Kucherov was amazing all around for the Lightning throughout the entire game. Not only was Kucherov the 3rd best scorer in the league, but he managed two goals as well as an assist. So far within the first four games of the series, Kucherov has four goals and five assists and came into Game 4 with a chip on his shoulder after the Lightning allowed the Devils back into the series with the comeback victory in Game 3. The Lightning currently have a 3-1 series lead and are rolling into Game 5 with a chance to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
The league will likely look at the hit between Kucherov and Devils’ defensemen Vatanen as it seemed like Kucherov not only jumped but lowered his shoulder in a hit that sent Vatanen out for the entirety of Game 3. Kyle Palmieri scored on a 5-3 advantage for the Devils, who I mentioned before are in the playoffs for the first time since reaching the Stanley Cup back in 2012. Kucherov was able to break the tie with about 5 minutes remaining in the period. The play was impressive as defensemen Coburn sent a pass from the left boards which was redirected from Devils defensemen Severson. Kucherov was able to gain possession of the loose puck and got a high shot off which resulted in his 3rd goal of the series. The Lightning were able to tie the game when Kucherov entered the zone and connected with Miller who got a shot over the shoulder of Devils goalie Schneider.
New Jersey Devils: Cory Schneider allowed three goals while recording 34 saves. Completing the game with a .944 save percentage
Tampa Bay Lightning: Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed one goal while recording 27 saves. Completing the game with a .946 save percentage.
