The National Championship game is being held tonight on April 2nd as the Villanova Wildcats take on the Michigan Wolverines.
Villanova won their Final Four matchup against the Kansas Jayhawks 95-79 behind Eric Paschall being 10/11 shooting for 24 points.
Michigan defeated Loyola-Chicago 69-57 behind a strong performance behind Moritz Wagner being 10/16 shooting for 24 PTS.
Key for a Michigan Victory:
1. Michigan needs to figure out their perimeter offense after a poor performance against Loyola when they shot 25% behind the arc as the team made only 7 of their 28 attempts. If the Wolverines can make the shots from beyond the arc the have a chance to squeeze past a talented Villanova team. If the Wolverines can find their stride and shoot like they did during the game against Texas A&M when they made 14 of the 24 attempts from deep they can keep the game close as maybe create enough momentum to gain the lead late.
2. Moe Wagner needs to continue his physical style of play. The way Wagner played on offense on Saturday against Loyola needs to carry over against Villanova. Not only was Wagner able to stretch the floor and create shots for his teammates but he was physical under the basket. Wagner pulled down 6 offensive rebounds and helped fuel the Wolverines on offensive creating more opportunities for 2nd chance points during the game.
Key for a Villanova Victory:
1. Villanova needs to continue to dominate both as a 3 point shooting team and as a perimeter defending team. The way the Wildcats shot from beyond the arc against Kansas was scary and if it carries over Michigan will have a hard time defending. The Wildcats shot 18-40 from beyond the arc. The Wildcats have a very fast paced and athletic group of guys on the roster and each player knows how to defend against the three pretty well as they held Kansas to only making 7 of their 21 attempts. Villanova will have to stop a very well rounded group from Michigan if they want to succeed and past games prove to be in favor of the Wildcats.
2. Jaylen Brunson needs to continue to shine on the floor as an excellent passer and a good shot creator. For his size, Brunson knows how to plays very well in the paint and because of his basketball IQ, he knows what shots are good shoots and are worth taking. Brunson is able to draw defenders and can kick the ball out to the open teammate to create offense for the Wildcats. Brunson was responsible for 18 points against Kansas and also had 6 assists. If Brunson can find a way to create opportunities for his teammates as well as creating good opportunities for himself then I believe Villanova has a chance to be named National Champions.
Villanova 82 – Michigan 78
I think the Villanova offense will be to much for the Wolverines defense.
