Michael Ford NFL Draft Prospect

Michael Ford (#4) was a cornerback for Southeast Missouri State University. Ford attended Marquette Catholic High School where he lettered in football all four years. Ford was named First Team All-Conference on offense and defense. Ford was named Offensive Player of the Year both junior and senior year. Ford also received All-State and All-Area Accolades. During his senior year, Ford appeared as one of USA Todays top performers for Week 6. Ford ran for 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns his junior season and rushed for 1,614 yards and 24 touchdowns his senior season. Ford had a very successful collegiate career playing at Southeast Missouri State University. Though Ford was redshirted his first season in 2013, Ford quickly saw time in 2014 when he was moved to the cornerback position. Ford appeared in nine games and started one as a wide receiver. Ford had 5 tackles in 2014 including 3 on special teams. In 2015, during his first full season at cornerback he started all 11 games. Ford was named Second Team All-Ohio Valley Conference, Ford finished the season with 44 tackles (32 solo) and returned his first interception 21 yards for a touchdown. During the game against Southern Illinois, Ford had 8 tackles and 2 interceptions. Ford had his first career sack against Indiana State and had 12 pass deflections. In 2016, Ford started 7 games and missed the final four due to injury. Ford recorded 40 tackles (30 solo), 3 tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception and 6 pass breakups. In 2017, Ford finished his final season with 32 total tackles (22 solo), 5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interceptions and 14 pass deflections. Ford reflected on the experience by saying, “I would say it was a very humble experience to start out but it was fun to create those bonds with teammates and to have had a successful career and be able to continue playing football.”
Ford talked about his toughest matchup and said it came against Anthony Miller a wide receiver from Memphis. Ford talked about his preparation by saying, “I prepared for this game by watching a lot of film. This helped me a lot because it let me know what they were trying to do in certain formations but I also got to see how they like to use him.” Against Memphis, Ford had 4 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 interception. Ford is currently preparing to participate in his school’s Pro Day as he looks to impress NFL scouts one final time prior to the draft in April. Ford is currently training with Ryan Clark at Traction Performance in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ford talked about his main focus and said, “my main focus is on technique, I feel as if I’m one of the most athletic players in this draft so I want to make sure I have professional technique.” Ford is an extremely athletic corner and because of his background playing on offense Ford has proven to have excellent hands. Ford also shows ideal football and hip mobility as receivers have a hard time creating separation.
