Ishmael Hargrove NFL Draft Prospect

Ishmael Hargrove (#16) played linebacker for the University of Buffalo. Hargrove attended Gilmour Academy in Gates Mill, Ohio. Hargrove was a three time All-Conference Selection and First-Team All-Ohio pick as a senior. Hargrove was named MVP of the team both as a junior and senior. Hargrove also received an invite to play in the North-South All-Star Ohio game, which is the highest honor for high school players in the state of Ohio. Not only did Hargrove excel on the field, but off the field Hargrove received OHFCA Academic All-Ohio as a senior and ranked second in his class. Hargrove 1
Hargrove began his collegiate career at University of Buffalo in 2014 as a true freshman. Hargrove appeared in 4 games in 2014 but didn’t record a tackle. As a sophomore, Hargrove appeared in 10 games where he recorded 13 tackles. Hargrove had a breakout season in 2016 as a junior. Hargrove started all 12 games as an outside linebacker where he recorded 103 tackles which was second on the team. Hargrove finished the 2016 season with 61 total tackles, 42 assisted tackles, 2.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 interception and 1 pass break-up. Due to his success in 2016, Hargrove was expecting to remain a starter during his senior year for the Bulls. During his final season at the University of Buffalo, Hargrove played in 12 games where he recorded 39 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 tackles for loss. Hargrove reflected on the experience by saying, “it taught me a lot and gave me a lot of experience on and off the field. Truly blessed to have the opportunity to play at the D1 level.”
Hargrove mentioned that his toughest matchup came against Army. Hargrove mentioned that they were a physical team. Hargrove tallied 7 total tackles against Army his senior year and tallied 13 total tackles and a forced fumble his junior year. Hargrove mentioned his preparation for the games by saying, “we watched a lot of film on them to prepare, they cut block a lot as well so practicing the techniques to avoid cut blocks was a major thing for them.” Hargrove 3
Hargrove is currently preparing to participate in the Pro Day at the University of Buffalo. As he looks to impress NFL Scouts one final time before the draft, Hargrove is looking to focus on is his speed and explosiveness. Hargrove will partake in tests such as the 40 yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, etc. Hargrove mentioned that he has been training hard on improving his explosiveness as he prepares for those events. Hargrove has the hands and speed to be an ideal threat on a team’s defense as he can shed blocks and make tackles.
